1835-Fireworks in Hilo, HI

They warned us our new hometown Hilo was crazy for fireworks, but we had no idea just how crazy. Our new home in Hilo is up the hill and from our lanai we have a 160 degree view of the ocean and the entire city. We were told that the Fourth of July was a minor issue for celebration and everything was saved for New Year’s Eve. We invited over some friends for dinner and hoped to be able to stay up until midnight. It turned out real easy. Fireworks started at 7:00 PM when one of our neighbors threw a quarter stick to dynamite into the street and the flash and the boom cleared all of our sinuses. The game was on! Fireworks continued for the next five hours lighting up the entire city and sky. Three rain bands came through stopping the festivities for about twenty minutes each time plus clearing the smoke from the sky. As soon as it was clear again, the city let loose. Around 11:50 PM a lull occurred in the firestorm. Apparently it was reload time. 12:00 hit and the entire city exploded with the largest fireworks show we have ever seen. This final encore lasted for twenty minutes and we were all speechless. What a show in Hilo Town!!!

Watch to the end to see the 12:00 extravaganza
