My parents Dar and Norine Fredrickson, passed away several years ago around ninety two years old. My brother Dan has been the holder of the ashes. Janine and I were returning from Alaska to Southern California and made an easy stop in Portland. My brother wanted to do a ceremony dispersing some of our parents ashes in to the sea.
The Oregon coast is beautiful during July. Long flat beaches surrounded by sand dunes topped with knee-high grasses. It’s a fifteen minutes hike from my brother’s house near Astoria, OR to the beach. Janine, Dan and I wanted to toast my parents with champaign but the local liquor stores only sold Korbel and Cookes fizzy wine. We opted for a wonderful
bottle of sipping tequila.
With glasses high we all told wonderful stories and toasted Dar and Norine. Dan released some of their ashes to the winds and sea.
Thank you Dad and Mom. We wouldn’t be where we are had it not been for you.

All of us on the Oregon shore.
