The ride from Corvallis to Bend took me over the Cascades from coastal prairies up over through lush rain forests down the other side into river valleys and finally into the high desert plateau. Over the several hundred mile route, the twisty-turnys went from wide four-lane express-type roadways to narrow two-lane thrill-seeker speedballs. It seemed all other cars on the highway had destinations for which they were late. I was enjoying the road and was in no hurry so I frequently pulled over to let the fireballs pass. The last fifty mile downhill slide into Bend, OR seemed like a thrill ride for everyone wanting to go ninety. It was hot on the high plateau and I was very tired so it was a challenge to keep up with the death wishers.
