Chichen Itza is a 1500 year old Mayan temple and was the most important and advanced ceremonial and religious center in Mesoamerica. “The Castle” or “Temple of Kukulcan”, a magnificent 70 feet high pyramid. According to tradition, during the spring equinox, one can see the effect of the sun representing the image of a serpent descending on the steps of the pyramid. It is now listed as one of the new 7 wonders of the world. Just a few years ago you could climb on the structures. Unfortunately, it now resembles a theme park and everything is roped off.
