Black Sand Beach is one of those mystical places you have to see once in your life. It is not a Bech from millions of year of crushed granite etc., but from fairly fresh lava. Just a few miles away was the last eruptions in Hawaii that happened a couple of years ago and destroyed many homes. The beach is dramatic to walk through the black sand and out on to the sharp lava rocks where the green turtles are resting. Most turtles do not rest on the shore. The green turtle is one of the few that will rest on the shore and only in a few places in the world, and Black Sand Beach is one of them.
