1685-Joshua Tree – CA

Returning from Las Vegas instead of taking I-10 all the way home,  Janine and I usually take the Cima Rd. and shoot across the Mohave desert, down old-school Route 66 at Amboy, through 29 Palms, Yucca Valley and usually end up in Palms Spring for the night,

We love Joshua Tree National Park and have been there many times. But, Joshua Trees grow over the entire Mohave desert. We have loved driving across the Mohave with the top open, two-hours after it has rained, and enjoyed the beautiful smell of the desert in full bloom. But last year at the height of the California fire season, the Mohave caught on fire burning over 1 million Joshua Trees. Since there were no structures to save, the forestry department sent all of their crews to Northern California to battle those fires.

The Dome fire burned for days and charred hundreds of thousands of acres to Joshua Trees. We were saddened to see one of our favorite places totally destroyed.
