1663-Yellowstone – WY

I shouldn’t have to explain Yellowstone National Park here. I wasn’t there to see the park this time, I was on a fast ride from the Eastern gate out of Cody, WY to get through the park ASAP and into Idaho on my way West. I left Cody about 7:00 and hit the Eastern gate about 8:30. The ride from Cody to the park entrance is one of my favorite rides. Beautiful canyons, open meadows, huge lakes, and a craggy unparalleled skyline. The ride took me by Cody Dam where my Dad used to work selling postcards to the tourists during the summers when he taught music in Powell, WY twenty miles away. This was the perfect time and direction to get through the park – before the tourists and going west. There was no traffic going this direction. Once I got through the park and near the Western gate, there was a ten-mile bumper-to-bumper line of cars trying to enter the park. It also didn’t help that there was a herd of buffalo meandering up the highway for a couple of hours (see the Buffalo video). But, if this is your only link to Yellowstone is through this blog and you want to see photos of geysers and mud pots, check out the photo gallery below from my trip through the park four years ago.
