The Gastown Steam Clock in Vancouver is the world’s first steam powered clock. It was created as a tourist attraction in the downtown area. Steam rotates gears and a chain mechanism that raise steel balls to the top of the contraption and the weight of these balls powers the clock. Every hour the clock “chimes” by blowing off the steam whistle. Check out the video.
Gears and pulleys lifting the steel balls to the top.
Looks like any other grandfather clock.
