Even four years after Hurricane Katrina, there are still homes that have not been repaired. When you understand that too many residents of New Orleans didn’t have proper home insurance it’s no wonder that this is a common site across the city. This row of houses is only two feet above the water level of the bayou across the street. When the hurricane and flood pushed the water six to eight feet above the bayou level these homes were flooded. You can see the water lines on them. A neighbor was so nervous of future floods he jacked his house up to three stories.
The row of houses along with the raised house taken on the other side of the bayou. The bayou is the second gray strip. Now you see why it flooded.
