1776-Car Launching, AK

You can watch dirt track racing, figure eight racing, destruction derby, but there is nothing more red-neck American then launching cars off a 300 cliff on the 4th of July. I have been around Alaska for many years but never heard of this phenomenon until last year. I called a buddy on the 4th of July of last year seeing what he was doing. He said he was at car launching at the glacier. I looked it up and notated my calendar for the next year to do the quest. It was a two hour drive from Anchorage to Glacier View across from the Matanuska Glacier. It’s only been going on for seven years but is growing as a cult tourist attraction. This year 7,000 people attended and next year probably 10,000. Over 3/4th of the crowd was from out-of-state. Once it hit YouTube and TikTok hoards of people showed up. I was one of them.
