Each week over 700 747s and other cargo planes land and take-off from the Anchorage airport. The airport is now the third largest cargo hub in the world. When flying from the far-east, a plane can take on a full tank of fuel and a half a load of cargo or a half a tank of fuel and a full load of cargo to fly to Europe or North America. These planes all carry a full load of cargo and stop in Anchorage for another half a tank of fuel. Anchorage is a gas station. Every now and then I like to plane spot. This day the weather was again cloudy and the 747s taking off had interesting weather formations on their wings.

Why Anchorage is a cargo hub.
