We made some wonderful friends from Finland and Fiji onboard the ship. The crew was so friendly and helpful and made us feel at home. The crew eventually started calling me “Ratu” which translates as Chief. It was fun and an honor to be called Ratu Scott along with Adi Janine which translates as Queen. This turned out to be especially useful when the traditional Kava Ceremony happened at the end of the week onboard. The Chef of the boat mixed up a concoction of ground Kava root to make a slightly stoner drink that numbs your mouth and helps you “relax.” When the ceremony began, they called up Ratu to sit up front and have the first cup – or two.
