1722-Night Lock – FR

One of the nights around midnight I was awakened movement in the force. I could feel when the boat was traversing a lock and jumped and whirled open the curtain of our room to find the boat speeding through a lock less than 6 inches from my window. The boat was wrapped with a green LED lighting strip that made the boat very visible at night. But this green light reflected off the lock wall and I was mesmerized by what I was seeing. I felt like I was an explorer, an archeologist, a geologist or a crazy naked dude in a green window. The lock was built many years ago with concrete made from local limestone. Since this part of France was originally covered by ocean for millions of years, everything here is made from sea creature limestone. Imbedded in this lock wall were ancient sea shells, graffiti from other sailers, scratches from other boats, lock equipment as well as construction moldings – all lit in an iridescent green. I didn’t wake Janine since that would give her evidence that I was truly nuts.
