For some reason I enjoy visiting railroad museums whenever I find one in my travels. I have wanted to visit the California State Railroad Museum for years and got lucky on this trip. The museum tells the history of railroading as the state of California is created from territory acquired from Mexico. From the gold rush to the building of great cities such as San Francisco and Los Angeles, the railroads were the backbone of this growth. All of the deployer trains have been renovated to their original glory and many still run. The museum is laid-out in a beautiful flow with many exhibits you can touch and walk through. I spent time with one of the docents who shared with me many interesting historical facts and stories of the nearby exhibits. Click on the gallery link below to see all of the photos.
