The ice caves near Mt. Adams, OR are old lava tubes that have filled with ice during the winter and remain frozen all year long. It was bout 85 degrees in the forest but when we descended into the cave, it got uncomfortably cold. Frozen and slippery at the bottom, we didn’t stay long. The natural bridges were also old lava tubes that the top eventually caved in, but left thicker portions to form natural bridges over the lava rivers.
