Big Bend National Park is one of the largest parks in the country. It borders the Rio Grande river with Mexico and is named for a large bend in the river. I was there after a recent rainy period and it smelled wonderful. Plants were green and no one was on the road. It takes real commitment to visit this park. It is one hundred miles one-way off a highway that is in the middle of nowhere South Texas. I did almost 250 miles that day just to visit the park. A hundred miles in and out each way and about fifty miles within the park. All twisty turny two-lane wonderful motorcycle roads. I only saw a small portion of the park. I road up into the bowl that was a volcano a zillion years ago that eventually collapsed on to itself. If I was to visit the park again, I would stay in the lodge in the bowl and take a more leisurely tour of the beautiful region. I did not get to visit the most stunning portion of the park. A road that runs along the side of the Rio Grande river for about fifty miles. It is listed as one of the top ten motorcycle trips to take.
