The Dunes at Stovepipe Wells camp ground in Death Valley beckon you from your tent as you look across the desert and wonder what are those things. We ventured out onto the dunes at sunset so we could get the long light as the sun slid behind the mountains. The ever-changing ripples of the sand as the fierce winds that can frequently blow across the desert, caught the eye from every angle. As the sun set, the shadows lengthened, creating deeper contrasts in the reptilian hide of the desert floor. We were on a photo shoot and this was a perfect laboratory for long light, shadow, and contrast.
