Feral burros can be found in many places in the Southwest especially in National Parks. This male burro popped up by the of the road as we travelled across Searles Dry Lake Rd. outside Trona, CA heading over the mountains to Death Valley. He was standing there alone, so we jumped out of the car, hiked across the desert keeping our distance, and circled around him to get the sun over our backs for a better photograph. We trailed him for a while, clapped our hands to get him to look in our direction and shot him with success. Apparently, he gained some affection for us, and as we hiked back to our car, he walked over to the road on the next turn. I jumped out and got some full-frontal shots.
